Dr. Courtney Merlo is an emergency medicine resident at Henry Ford Hospital, where she brings a wealth of experience and expertise to patient care and medical education. She previously served as the president of the National Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) and held leadership roles including on the student committee of the Commission on Osteopathic Colleges Accreditation, Region III Trustee at SOMA, and chapter president of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine Student Osteopathic Medical Association. Dr. Merlo has been recognized for her commitment to advancing the osteopathic profession and promoting excellence in medical education.
Dr. Merlo has held various leadership roles in residency, including serving as her program delegate for the Emergency Medicine Residents Association. In this capacity, she represented the interests of emergency medicine residents nationwide, advocating for resident-driven policy initiatives and participating in discussions to shape the future of emergency medicine education and practice. Prior to her residency, Dr. Merlo honed her expertise as a performance dietitian for the Detroit Lions Cheerleaders and as a clinical dietitian, where she provided specialized nutrition counseling and support to optimize performance and well-being. Her diverse background in nutrition and medicine equips her with a holistic approach to patient care, emphasizing the importance of lifestyle interventions in promoting health and wellness.
