Published by the ACGME, the Journal of Graduate Medical Education (JGME) disseminates scholarship and promotes critical inquiry to inform and engage the graduate medical education (GME) community. JGME is open access, peer-reviewed, and editorially independent from the ACGME.
Each issue features original research, educational innovations, review articles, and commentaries relevant to the education and training of residents and fellows and the teaching environment. JGME also publishes perspectives, brief reports, letters to the editor, personal essays, and invited guest editorials.
The ACGME provides financial and administrative support for JGME; however, the journal’s Editorial Board independently reviews and selects articles for publication. With the exception of articles in the ACGME News and Views section, all content is peer-reviewed and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the ACGME.
As of January 2021, everything published in JGME is open access and available to the GME community at no cost.
Opening JGME content to the entire GME community aligns with the ACGME's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by providing easy access to relevant and beneficial research and new ideas regardless of resource level.
JGME does not charge authors for manuscript submission or publication. Before submitting your manuscript, carefully read the Instructions for Authors and review the Manuscript Submission Checklist. Accepted submissions will require a signed copyright release from all authors prior to publication, as JGME retains copyright for all articles.
JGME publishes supplements focusing on specific topics of importance to the GME community, such as Milestones 2.0.
For the convenience of readers, the JGME website features collections of articles that focus on important GME topics, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice; COVID-19; well-being; and remediation.
JGME’s podcast, Hot Topics in MedEd, features conversations with JGME Editorial Board members and authors around current research and trends in GME. It also provides expert advice for getting published. New episodes are released with each issue and can be found on the JGME website, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify.
