Lynne Kirk, MD, MACP will join the ACGME to lead efforts related to the review of residency and fellowship programs. She will begin this new position in September.

This groundbreaking event brought together 90 leaders in graduate and undergraduate medical education, practicing physicians, and disability advocates to address persistent barriers and develop strategies for improving physician education and training in caring for patients with disabilities.

The ACGME is pleased to announce that Dr. Elisa (Lisa) Crouse will be the organization’s new Senior Vice President, Institutional and Program Accreditation. In this role, Dr. Crouse will work closely with the Chief Accreditation Officer to direct the activities of the executive directors who support accreditation.

In this second in a series of collaboratives, participating teams will develop and test new models that equip learners with the skills they need to better engage in systems-based approaches to delivering high-quality care.

Twenty-five individuals and two institutions were honored at the 2018 Annual Educational Conference. Timothy C. Flynn, MD, FACS, received the John C. Gienapp Distinguished Service Award. This is the first time in six years the award has been given.

As a new academic year approaches, it is important to continue breaking the silence surrounding clinician burnout. During a highly emotional and personal panel discussion at the 2019 ACGME Annual Educational Conference in March, Dr. Nasca and colleagues from other national organizations in medicine discussed how burnout and self-doubt touched their lives. Influenced by those experiences and others throughout his career, Dr. Nasca has positioned the ACGME to help lead the charge to address physician well-being.

John V. Pamula, MD, FACP, led a quality improvement project focused on reducing burnout and increasing well-being among its residents. His poster, Multipronged Strategies to Improve Wellbeing and Work-Life Balance of Residents, was presented at the 2019 Annual Educational Conference, Engaging Each Other: Rediscovering Meaning in Medicine.
