Patty Desmond brings decades of robust expertise in information technology and operations management to her role as Vice President, Infrastructure and Operations (I&O). With a tenure of 22 years at the ACGME, Ms. Desmond has been instrumental in shaping the IT infrastructure and operations landscape of the organization. Her current responsibilities encompass the seamless delivery of all IT infrastructure and related operations that facilitate business capabilities and services throughout the enterprise. She has comprehensive oversight of IT operations, network infrastructure, data security, and disaster recovery/business continuity. Additionally, Ms. Desmond plays a pivotal role in IT strategy, focusing on technological enhancements to optimize current operations and support future business initiatives.
Throughout her career at the ACGME, Ms. Desmond has held various infrastructure and support roles, each contributing to her deep understanding of the IT needs and challenges within the health care education sector and for the organization specifically. Before the ACGME, she worked at the Tribune Company, where she excelled as a senior network engineer. In this capacity, she was a key member of the Wide Area Networking team, supporting the network infrastructure essential for production of the Tribune's newspapers and TV stations. This experience laid a solid foundation for her expertise in managing complex network systems.
Prior to that, Ms. Desmond served as a senior technology trainer at Productivity Point International, where she was responsible for developing curriculum and courseware, as well as delivering training for Advanced Information Technology courses. This role underscored her ability to translate complex IT concepts into accessible and engaging learning experiences, a skill that has undoubtedly contributed to her leadership effectiveness.
Ms. Desmond’s career journey began in education, as a second grade elementary school teacher. This early experience in fostering learning and development in young minds infused her professional path with a unique perspective on training, communication, and organizational growth. She holds a BA in elementary education from North Central College, where her passion for teaching and technology first converged. Her academic pursuits continued with graduate work in curriculum and instruction, further enriching her capacity to lead and innovate in the technology and education sectors.
