Basics of Accreditation Workshops for New Coordinators

Registration is open for the 2022 Basics of Accreditation Workshops! They will be held virtually in May and June; space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

The two-part, specialty-specific workshop series is designed for coordinators with fewer than two years' experience in the coordinator role and will assist them in understanding the basics of ACGME accreditation of residency and fellowship programs.

Register Now for Spring 2022 Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment Course

Registration for the spring 2022 ACGME faculty development course is open! Led by ACGME senior staff members and selected expert instructors from around the country, Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment helps participants build effective assessment programs for their residency or fellowship programs. Offered virtually, sessions are highly interactive and use multiple learning approaches, including virtual simulations, to provide participants with approaches and tools for effective assessment.

Webcast for Program Directors and Coordinators on the 2022-2023 Annual Update Changes

This webcast will provide information about the Accreditation Data System (ADS) Annual Update timelines and changes for Academic Year 2022-2023 to help designated institutional officials, program directors, and coordinators better prepare for and effectively complete the Annual Update.

Transitions in Medical Education Toolkits

The ACGME, in collaboration with several other medical education organizations, has released three toolkits to aid programs and learners as they progress through the medical education continuum from medical school to practice. The toolkits are not requirements and are meant to help guide programs and learners as they deal with disrupted years of education due to the pandemic.

Upcoming Webinar: ACGME Rural Track Program Designation: Type 2 - Thursday!

The ACGME will soon offer an additional Rural Track Program designation to coincide with an update to rural tracks in federal law and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) policy. This new designation will be available in May 2022 for already-accredited programs seeking to add a new rural track. More information about this new designation option will be available in the coming weeks on the Rural Tracks web page of the ACGME website.

Office Hours with the Institutional Review Committee Executive Director

Institutional Accreditation staff members recognize that designated institutional officials (DIOs) and institutional coordinators are currently preparing for changes related to institutional accreditation and recognition. ACGME Seeks Members for MUA/P Advisory Group

The ACGME is forming an Advisory Group that will provide consultation concerning implementation of the ACGME’s framework for medically underserved areas/populations (MUA/P) and GME. Nominations are open now until June 1, 2022 for individuals representing diverse perspectives with expertise in GME, MUA/P, and/or health care policy/governance. Members (designated institutional officials, program directors, and senior clinical executive leaders) and public members will serve up to three-year initial terms with the option of renewing for an additional three-year term. Resident/fellow members will serve two-year terms. Self-nominations are accepted.

ACGME Seeks Public Member

The following Review Committee is seeking its next public member for a six-year term beginning July 1, 2023. these members share the perspective of the public, foster public accountability, enrich the work of the Committee through outside expertise, and create transparency. While nominees cannot be physicians, other health care professionals are permitted if they are not employed by an organization with ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship programs.

ACGME Seeks Resident Members

The following Review Committees seeks nomination for their next resident member positions. Nominees must be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship program at the time of the appointment and may not serve more than one year beyond completion of that residency or fellowship. After review and consideration of all nominees, the Review Committee will forward its selection to the ACGME Board of Directors for approval. Terms begin July 1, 2023 and end June 30, 2025.

NEW! Colon and Rectal Surgery Block Diagram Template Available

A block diagram template is posted on the Documents and Resources page of the Colon and Rectal Surgery section of the ACGME website, as well as in the Specialty Instructions link in the Accreditation Data System “Sites” tab. Programs are encouraged to use this new template for the Annual Update, complement requests, and requests to add participating sites effective immediately; programs will be required to use the template effective July 1, 2022.

Dermatopathology Program Requirements: 10-Year Major Revision

As part of the 10-year major revision process to the Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Dermatopathology , the ACGME is soliciting feedback from the community.

The process starts with general feedback on the current set of Requirements, which can be accessed from the Program Requirements and FAQs and Applications page of the Dermatology section of the ACGME website. During this 30-day review process comments must be limited to the subspecialty-specific requirement language (regular text), as the Common Program Requirements (bold text) are not up for revision; any comments relating to the Common Program Requirements will not be considered in the process.
