NEW! FSMB, Intealth, ACGME Establish Advisory Commission to Guide Alternate Pathways for State Licensure of International Medical Graduates (IMGs)
FSMB, Intealth™, and the ACGME jointly announced the formation of the Advisory Commission on Alternate Licensing Models, which aims to provide guidance and recommendations on alternative pathways for state licensure of physicians who have completed training and/or practiced outside of the US, predominantly IMGs. The goal is to address disparities and uncertainties arising from different proposals for licensing requirements among states while ensuring patient safety and the readiness of physicians to practice in the American health care system.

The Barbara Ross-Lee, DO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award recognizes efforts to achieve DEI in graduate medical education. The award recognizes ACGME-accredited Sponsoring Institutions and programs, as well as specialty organizations and non-profit organizations working to diversify the underrepresented physician workforce and create inclusive workplaces that foster humane, civil, and equitable environments.

The ACGME's new Clinician Educator Journal Club is a monthly online meeting on the third Thursday of each month gathering together current and future clinician educators, authors, and ACGME staff members to discuss the latest journal articles and timely topics in medical education.

This resource is offered by the ACGME at no charge to the GME community. New topics, articles, and speakers will be offered each session, and participants should read the article ahead of time and come with questions.
Medically Underserved Areas and Populations (MUA/P) Interest Group Sessions
The ACGME is launching monthly virtual interest group sessions for GME community members who are involved in addressing the needs of MUA/Ps. MUA/Ps are places or communities in which groups of people have unmet health or health care needs.

Back to Bedside Funding Available
The ACGME's Back to Bedside initiative is designed to empower residents and fellows to develop transformative projects that foster meaning and joy in work and allow them to engage on a deeper level with what is at the heart of medicine: their patients.
This Back to Bedside funding cycle offers two options for applicants to consider:
- The Open Innovation option is intended to provide flexibility for novel proposals.
- The Project in a Box - Focused Innovation option offers residents and fellows from all specialties a successful project example to use as inspiration for further innovation.
Proposals are due by April 22, 2024.

ACGME Seeks Members for MUA/P Advisory Group
The ACGME seeks nominations of a resident/fellow and a senior clinical executive leader (e.g., chief executive officer, chief medical officer, chief nursing officer) for the MUA/P Advisory Group. This group provides consultation concerning implementation of the ACGME’s framework for MUA/P and GME.
The senior clinical executive leader will serve up to three years with the option of renewing for an additional three-year term. The resident/fellow will serve two-year terms. Self-nominations are accepted.

NEW! Shaping GME Major Requirement Revision - Call for Comments
Every 10 years, Review Committees are required to review their specialty-specific Program Requirements to determine necessary revisions. The ACGME Board of Directors has approved a new process for all such major revisions going forward.
The process convenes specialty-specific writing groups, who, along with members of the specialty community and leaders from other specialties and related fields, rigorously and creatively consider what the specialty will look like in the future (recognizing that the future is marked with significant uncertainty). Out of this process, the writing group drafts and proposes revisions to the Program Requirements that will prepare learners for current and future practice.

Improving Pediatric Fellows’ Feedback Skills and Confidence Through Objective Structured Examinations

An observed structured feedback examination was developed at an academic children’s hospital to provide feedback training to pediatric fellows and assess changes in skills and self-reported confidence. This led to a moderate improvement in fellows’ performance, confidence, and three-month retention of feedback skills.

A Systems Approach to Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment
This course will be offered May 5-10, 2024 at the ACGME office in Chicago, Illinois. Spots are filling fast; sign up today.
The course is designed to help participants build effective assessment programs for their residency or fellowship. Sessions are highly interactive and use multiple learning approaches, including simulation practice, peer consultations, and application exercises, to provide participants with methods and tools for effective assessment. The course also provides a roadmap for developing an assessment system to assist participants in implementing changes within their own institution.

Review Committee Nominations: Resident Member
The following Review Committee seeks its next resident member for a two-year term beginning July 1, 2024. The resident member must be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited neurological surgery program at the time of the appointment and may not serve more than one year beyond completion of residency.

Case Number Requirement Changes in Nuclear Radiology
The Review Committee for Radiology recently discussed the availability and volume of the overall number of pediatric nuclear cases, and how many nuclear radiology fellows can take credit per case. The Review Committee determined it will no longer enforce Program Requirement IV.B.1.b).(2).(b).(i), which requires a minimum of 100 pediatric cases per fellow.
While all fellows must have experience in pediatric cases, it is the responsibility of the program director to determine how much pediatric experience each fellow needs to achieve competence to enter autonomous practice.
