NEW! Subspecialty Proposal
As part of the ongoing effort to encourage participation of the GME community and the public in the process of reviewing potential new specialties or subspecialties for accreditation, the ACGME offers a 45-day comment period to the community of interest regarding proposed new specialties and subspecialties. The subspecialty below is currently under consideration. Review the proposal and access the public comment form.

NEW! Updates Are Live! Check Out the Redesigned Learn at ACGME
Responding to community feedback, the ACGME has enhanced its online education portal, making it easier to navigate and more useful to the GME community. As of today, the entire GME community will be able to access the improved platform. An orientation video helping users navigate the new design is available on the home page of Learn at ACGME. Improved features include:
- Streamlined navigation and a clear navigation menu on every page
- A more user-friendly dashboard for tracking started and completed courses
- The ability to identify relevant content by role in GME
Existing accounts will keep the same username and password and may be prompted to complete a brief survey that will create their profiles in the updated system. A free account is required to access most content in the platform. The ACGME will continue to make improvements to accessibility and functionality.

ADS and Case Log System Downtime due to Academic Year Rollover
ADS and the ACGME Case Log System will be unavailable from 11:59 p.m. Central on Friday, June 28 until approximately 4:00 p.m. Central on Saturday, June 29. The systems will convert to the 2024-2025 Academic Year during this period. After 4:00 p.m. June 29, the ACGME's data systems will reflect Academic Year 2024-2025, and all residents and fellows will have an unconfirmed status.

“I Went Into This Field to Empower Other People, and I Feel Like I Failed”: Residents Experience Moral Distress Post-Dobbs

This qualitative study of obstetrics and gynecology residents in states with restricted abortion access used one-on-one semi-structured interviews to explore resident moral distress after the US Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling. Three themes emerged from the study: challenges to physician identity; participation in care that exacerbates inequities; and a determination to advocate for and provide abortion care in the future.
Time and Note Characteristic Effects of an Electronic Health Record Template for Internal Medicine Resident Notes

In 2022, a multidisciplinary team at UC Davis Health created optimized electronic health record templates for internal medicine resident admission and progress notes. This Brief Report examines how these templates successfully reduced note-writing time, shortened note length, and decreased the percentage of progress note text copy-forwarded from prior notes.
Ted Talks: Learning the Lasso Way

This Perspectives article describes how a group of educators used clips from the TV show Ted Lasso to teach interpersonal and communication skills to their residents. The authors show how lessons from the show, such as “be curious, not judgmental,” “woman up,” “be a goldfish,” and “you’re just one of 11,” can teach learners how to look beyond biases, value diversity, learn from mistakes, and seek support from a team.

Orthopaedic surgery program leaders can meet with the ACGME Review Committee executive director and chair during the 2024 American Orthopaedic Association Annual Leadership Meeting on June 20-22, 2024, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and take place at the St. Louis Union Station, Curio Collection by Hilton.

The Review Committee for Thoracic Surgery is providing updated guidance on the criteria for review and approval of program directors. Programs are strongly encouraged to review this information prior to submission of program director changes in ADS.

Interventional Pulmonology Milestones Available
The Milestones for Interventional Pulmonology are now available on the Milestones page of the Internal Medicine section of the ACGME website. Programs will begin using the new Milestones in July 2024, with the first reporting window in the winter of the 2024-2025 academic year. A Supplemental Guide has also been created as a companion tool, in both Word and PDF format.

Institutional Update Reminders, Resources, and Office Hours
The ACGME emailed designated institutional officials (DIOs) and institutional coordinators April 24 with key information about the ADS Annual Update. Resources to assist in the update are available in the ADS Help Center. ACGME Seeks Resident/Fellow Members
The following Review Committees seek nominations for their next resident member position. Nominees must be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship program at the time of the appointment and may not serve more than one year beyond completion of that residency or fellowship. The Review Committees will forward their selections to the ACGME Board of Directors for approval. Terms begin July 1, 2025, and end June 30, 2027.

Transitional Year Review Committee Member Nominations Open
The Committee is seeking three new physician members. Candidates must be board certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, or radiology through a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties or certifying board of the American Osteopathic Association. The new committee members' term will begin July 1, 2025, and end June 30, 2031. Additional information, including the nomination form, is available upon request.
