As part of the ongoing effort to encourage participation of the GME community and the public in the process of reviewing potential new specialties or subspecialties for accreditation, the ACGME offers a 45-day comment period to the community of interest regarding proposed new specialties and subspecialties. Version 3.0 of the CLER Pathways to Excellence: Expectations for an Optimal Clinical Learning Environment to Achieve Safe and High-Quality Patient Care is now available. The document continues to serve as a tool to promote discussions and actions to optimize the clinical learning environment. This version also introduces the new CLER Focus Area of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This Focus Area recognizes that diverse, equitable, and inclusive clinical learning environments are essential to improve patient and learner experiences and achieve equity in health care.
Version 3.0 of the CLER Pathways to Excellence will be the basis for the next cycle of CLER visits anticipated to launch in mid-2025.
The Journal Club will be a monthly online meeting of graduate medical educators, authors, and ACGME staff members coming together to discuss the latest journal articles and timely topics in medical education.

More specialties are beginning to use a standardized letter of evaluation for the residency application process, with varying degrees of validity evidence for these tools, depending on the specialty. This study of the emergency medicine standardized letter of evaluation used mock letters to measure agreement of readers’ positioning of the applicants on a fictional rank list, as well as success of a predictive model.

Limited spots are available for the following sessions. The Leadership Skills Training Program for Chief Residents is designed to provide a transitional experience into the role of chief resident. The program introduces leadership concepts to enhance individual effectiveness in a leadership role.

This course will be offered May 5-10, 2024 at the ACGME office in Chicago, Illinois.
The course is designed to help participants build effective assessment programs for their residency or fellowship. Sessions are highly interactive and use multiple learning approaches, including simulation practice, peer consultations, and application exercises, to provide participants with methods and tools for effective assessment. The course also provides a roadmap for developing an assessment system to assist participants in implementing changes within their own institution.

The Review Committee for Radiology recently discussed the availability and volume of the overall number of pediatric nuclear cases, and how many nuclear radiology fellows can take credit per case. The Review Committee determined it will no longer enforce Program Requirement IV.B.1.b).(2).(b).(i), which requires a minimum of 100 pediatric cases per fellow.
While all fellows must have experience in pediatric cases, it is the responsibility of the program director to determine how much pediatric experience each fellow needs to achieve competence to enter autonomous practice.
