The 2025 ACGME Annual Educational Conference promises to bring the graduate medical education community together for three days of learning and connecting, with a focus on inspiring Meaning in Medicine for all attendees. The conference’s rich schedule has always included both general interest sessions and focused content for specific audiences, and the 2025 agenda is no exception. The first day of the conference, though, provides attendees with a unique opportunity to spend an entire day on learning and networking within a specific area of focus. Led by ACGME and GME leaders and experts, Full-Day Courses curated on topics for specific audiences are included in the cost of registration; and attendees choose the course most relevant to their role or area of interest in GME when they sign up to attend. This post will break down what those options are for attendees joining the ACGME in Nashville in 2025.
Be the Best Program Director You Can Be: A Course for Program Directors
Designed for program directors interested in learning more about the ACGME accreditation process and ways in which they can optimally serve in their role, this course will include information about the ACGME, its Review Committees and their review process, and how to succeed in achieving compliance with the Common and specialty-specific Program Requirements. It will also cover the Clinical Competency Committee, assessment of residents/fellows, and program evaluation. Attendees will meet accreditation team leaders, including Executive Directors and current, experienced program directors, who will share tips for success. The course will include didactic presentations and opportunity for Q and A. There will also be an optional session on applications for those program leaders who are starting a new program, either in the US or internationally, and for those interested in Osteopathic Recognition.
ACGME/AOGME Osteopathic Recognition Full-Day Course
Developed by the ACGME in partnership with the Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME), this course aims to provide information and support to programs with Osteopathic Recognition and programs that may consider applying for Osteopathic Recognition. The course is designed in two parts, with the first being structured into general sessions that will allow attendees to hear and learn directly from Directors of Osteopathic Education, osteopathic faculty members, and designated osteopathic residents from programs with ACGME Osteopathic Recognition. The second part of the course will be delivered by leaders and staff members of the ACGME’s Osteopathic Recognition Committee, and is designed to provide insight into the recognition process and enhance attendees’ understanding of the application of the Osteopathic Recognition Requirements.
Full-Day Course for Designated Institutional Officials (DIOs)
This course is designed for both new and experienced DIOs. It will provide informational updates, as well as interactive learning activities relevant to Sponsoring Institutions and clinical learning environments (CLEs). Attendees will participate in discussions that focus on overseeing institutional accreditation and promoting GME/CLE integration. Sessions will emphasize the emerging role of the DIO as a health systems leader, and attendees will have opportunities to support, share, and learn from their peers.
Elevating Clinician Educator Excellence Full-Day Course
This course is tailored for medical educators aiming to elevate their own skills related to their roles as educators. By using the Clinician Educator Milestones as a guiding framework, the course will look at challenging aspects of assessment, clinical reasoning, managing struggling learners, Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and delivering effective feedback. The final segment will concentrate on leveraging the Milestones to benefit others through coaching and faculty development, as well as for personal growth through professional development and portfolio creation. Attendees will engage in small-group discussions to explore how the theories and strategies presented can be effectively integrated into their programs.
Program and Institutional Strategies for Inclusive Learning Environments
After a successful introduction to the Full-Day Course agenda in 2024, this course returns to the agenda in 2025, designed for GME leaders, educators, and administrators interested in learning skills and strategies for increasing resident, fellow, and faculty member recruitment and retention, and in creating inclusive environments. Participants will learn about how trauma manifests in GME practices and learning environments; learn strategies for developing organizational capacity for inclusive cultures while managing resistance; hear how to effectively use the ACGME Equity Matters® program resources; and apply knowledge in small-group strategy sessions. Structured in both didactive and active learning, attendees will also receive a variety of tools to use during and after the course.
FDC006: Coordinator Forum: Navigating With Confidence
The 15th annual Coordinator Forum will feature sessions designed for new and experienced institutional and program coordinators to gain knowledge and network with colleagues. Two plenary sessions, led by experienced administrative leaders and ACGME staff members, will discuss issues at the forefront for the coordinator community. Breakout sessions will cover a variety of topics applicable to the coordinator role. The Coordinator Forum Full-Day Course will conclude with a networking event, so that participants can recap the day with new friends and colleagues before continuing to the Marvin R. Dunn Welcoming Poster Reception and Exhibitor Kick-Off.
