The ACGME seeks presentations, workshops, and posters for the second National Learning Community of Sponsoring Institutions meeting. The Call for Submissions deadline is Friday, June 9, 2023.

The meeting, to be held in Chicago and remotely September 19-20, 2023, provides opportunities to share and connect with other institutional graduate medical education (GME) leaders, with a focus on:

  • Transforming education through GME innovation​
  • Demonstrating commitment to excellence in patient care
  • Optimizing health systems for learning

NEXT WEEK! Rural Data Enhancement (RDE) Project Office Hours

The ACGME is pursuing an RDE project to improve the accuracy, reliability, and accessibility of GME location data. As part of this project, health systems and consortia will be removed as types of participating sites from the ADS. If an ACGME-accredited program lists a health system or consortium as a participating site, ACGME staff members will contact the Sponsoring Institution's designated institutional official and institutional coordinator(s) with options.

NEW! Clarification on Program Requirements for Internal Medicine

The Review Committee for Internal Medicine is clarifying when requirements related to dedicated time and support for program administration will be enforceable.

Internal medicine residency programs

  • The requirements related to full-time equivalent (FTE) support for program director, associate program director, core faculty members, and program coordinator that went into effect on July 1, 2022 are subject to citation July 1, 2023.

Internal medicine fellowship programs

  • The FTE requirements for program director and program coordinator that went into effect on July 1, 2022 are subject to citation beginning July 1, 2023. These requirements did not change in any way as part of the revisions proposed in early 2023.
  • The FTE requirements for core faculty members and associate program directors that went into effect on July 1, 2022 will not be subject to citation beginning July 1, 2023. In response to concerns raised by the internal medicine community after these requirements were approved, the Review Committee proposed reductions to core faculty requirements in revisions posted for public comment in early 2023. Based on the comments, the committee made additional modifications to the requirements. The final version of each set of subspecialty Program Requirements will be reviewed by the Board of Directors this fall. If approved, the FTE requirements for core faculty members and associate program director will not be subject to citation until July 1, 2025.

Executive Director and Chair, Review Committee for Orthopaedic Surgery to Hold Office Hours in Utah

Orthopaedic surgery program leaders can meet with the ACGME Review Committee Executive Director and Review Committee Chair during the 2023 American Orthopaedic Association Annual Leadership Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah.

ACGME Seeks Public Member

The following Review Committee seeks its next public member for a six-year term beginning July 1, 2024. Public members share the perspective of the public, foster public accountability, enrich the work of the Review Committee through outside expertise, and create transparency. While nominees cannot be physicians, other health care professionals are permitted if they are not employed by an organization with ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship programs.

The Transitional Year Review Committee is looking for two new physician members. Candidates must be certified in anesthesiology or surgery through an American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association member board.

Nominations are due by July 1, 2023. The Review Committee will forward its selections to the ACGME Board of Directors for approval. Terms begin July 1, 2024 and end June 30, 2026.
