Special Note on Combined Programs Review and Comment
As previously announced in this e-Communication, the proposed ACGME Program Requirements for Combined Programs have been posted for a 45-day public review and comment period, ending on July 12, 2024. The ACGME Board of Directors will review the final proposed Program Requirements at its September 2024 meeting.
The previous communications on this topic referred to both combined programs and integrated programs; however, this nomenclature has been changed to instead identify two types of combined programs in order to avoid any confusion with existing integrated tracks within some specialties (e.g., thoracic surgery (integrated)). There will be no changes to existing integrated programs. The new proposed definitions for combined programs are as follows:
- Combined Program – Shortened Program Length: A program that provides residents/fellows with education and training in two or more specialties/subspecialties, with a shorter length of education and training than completion of each program independently. Completion of such a program should result in eligibility to take the certification examination in each relevant specialty/subspecialty offered by member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties and/or certifying boards of the American Osteopathic Association.
- Combined Program – Standard Program Length: A program that provides residents/fellows with education and training in two or more specialties/subspecialties, with no reduction in overall length of education and training. Completion of such a program should result in eligibility to take the certification examinations in each relevant specialty/subspecialty offered by member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties and/or certifying boards of the American Osteopathic Association.

NEW! Program Requirements for Pediatric Hospital Medicine Updated
The Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Pediatric Hospital Medicine that became effective on July 1, 2023 have been updated to correct the omission of specialty-specific requirement IV.C.3.a).(2).(a). The corrected documents are now available on the Program Requirements, FAQs, and Applications tab of the Pediatrics section of the ACGME website.

NEW! Review Committee for Orthopaedic Surgery Executive Director and Chair to Hold Office Hours in St. Louis
Orthopaedic surgery program leaders can meet with the ACGME Review Committee executive director and chair during the 2024 American Orthopaedic Association Annual Leadership Meeting on June 20-22, 2024, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and take place at the St. Louis Union Station, Curio Collection by Hilton.

TOMORROW! Institutional Update Reminders, Resources, and Office Hours
The ACGME emailed designated institutional officials (DIOs) and institutional coordinators April 24 with key information about the Accreditation Data System (ADS) Annual Update. Resources to assist in the update are available in the ADS Help Center. Offices hours to discuss the changes and answer questions will be held using this link on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Central on June 4, July 9, and July 30.

Improvements Are Coming to Learn at ACGME!
A redesign of Learn at ACGME, the ACGME's online learning portal, will be rolled out in June. The improvements incorporate user feedback to make Learn at ACGME easier to navigate and more beneficial for the GME community.
The redesign process will take a few weeks, so some users will see changes sooner than others, and some users will be prompted to update their profiles. Watch the ACGME's communication channels including the e-Communication for more information.
ADS and Case Log System Downtime due to Academic Year Rollover
ADS and the ACGME Case Log System will be unavailable from 11:59 p.m. Central on Friday, June 28 until approximately 4:00 p.m. Central on Saturday, June 29. The systems will convert to the 2024-2025 Academic Year during this period. After 4:00 p.m. June 29, the ACGME's data systems will reflect Academic Year 2024-2025, and all residents and fellows will have an unconfirmed status.

This monthly online event occurs on the third Thursday of each month. This resource is offered at no cost to the GME community. New topics, articles, and speakers will be offered each session. Participants should read the article ahead of time and come with questions.
NEXT WEEK! Call for Applicants: Clinical Learning Environment Toolkit for Formative Assessment
The ACGME is seeking up to 10 ACGME-accredited Sponsoring Institutions to test the first modular component of the new Clinical Learning Environment Toolkit for Formative Assessment. The first module will address the CLER Focus Area of Patient Safety.
The toolkit is a direct response to the GME community’s requests for the CLER Program to expand its reach to multiple participating sites that are part of a single Sponsoring Institution. The toolkit will provide clinical learning environment executives and GME leaders with a framework with which they can continuously conduct their own assessment of all their clinical learning environments to identify improvement opportunities, innovate, and monitor performance in the CLER Focus Areas.

ACGME Seeks Resident/Fellow Members
The following Review Committees seek nominations for their next resident member position. Nominees must be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship program at the time of the appointment and may not serve more than one year beyond completion of that residency or fellowship. The Review Committees will forward their selections to the ACGME Board of Directors for approval. Terms begin July 1, 2025, and end June 30, 2027.
