NEW! ADS and Case Log System Downtime due to Academic Year Rollover
ADS and the ACGME Case Log System will be unavailable from 11:59 p.m. Central on Friday, June 28 until approximately 4:00 p.m. Central on Saturday, June 29. The systems will convert to the 2024-2025 Academic Year during this period. After 4:00 p.m. June 29, the ACGME's data systems will reflect Academic Year 2024-2025, and all residents and fellows will have an unconfirmed status.

NEW! ADS Annual Update Schedule
The ADS 2024-2025 Academic Year Annual Updates will be collected between July and September 2024, and programs will receive an initial notification email at the beginning of the reporting timeframe noting all Annual Update requirements and their respective deadlines. Each program's Annual Update timeframe will appear in ADS under Program > Important Dates column on the right-hand side by July 1.
The 2024-2025 ADS Annual Update Overview, Summary of Changes, FAQs, schedule by specialty, and other resources are available in the Annual Update section of the ADS Help Center.

The next National Health Equity Grand Rounds event will be held Thursday, May 30 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Central. This event is free.
In Advancing Health Equity Through Resistance: A State of the Union on Threats and Opportunities, public health leaders, health care professionals, policy experts, and organizers with deep experience in community-based health justice work will gather to share their perspectives on the current state of efforts to advance public health for all people living in the US.

These one-hour Zoom calls will take place on the third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. Central and are open to the entire GME community. During these sessions, participants will provide information about efforts in GME and MUA/P, solve for common challenges, and share helpful resources. GME institution and program leaders will connect with peers and ACGME representatives in breakout group.
Mental Health and Well-Being during Transitions
This May, the ACGME is highlighting specific well-being resources in observance of Mental Health Awareness Month. A new mental health resource for the community, Mental Health and Well-Being during Transitions, is now available in the online learning portal, Learn at ACGME.
Transitions along the medical education continuum are often challenging and can pose threats to the mental health and well-being of learners. Studies indicate the transition from medical school to residency is particularly difficult. This page was created to both bring attention to this important issue and provide systems- and individual-oriented strategies to help Sponsoring Institutions and programs provide support to first-year residents in the early months of their educational program.

Call for Applicants: Clinical Learning Environment Toolkit for Formative Assessment
The ACGME is seeking up to 10 ACGME-accredited Sponsoring Institutions to test the first modular component of the new Clinical Learning Environment Toolkit for Formative Assessment. The first module will address the CLER Focus Area of Patient Safety.
The toolkit is a direct response to the GME community’s requests for the CLER Program to expand its reach to multiple participating sites that are part of a single Sponsoring Institution. The toolkit will provide clinical learning environment executives and GME leaders with a framework with which they can continuously conduct their own assessment of all their clinical learning environments to identify improvement opportunities, innovate, and monitor performance in the CLER Focus Areas.

The Osteopathic Recognition Committee has updated the Accreditation Data System (ADS) Annual Update Guide for Osteopathic Recognition, which is now available on the Osteopathic Recognition page of the ACGME website. This guide is intended to assist programs with Osteopathic Recognition in the completion of the ADS Annual Update, to ensure all necessary Osteopathic Recognition information in ADS has been reviewed, and updated, as appropriate.

The following Review Committees seek nominations for their next resident member position. Nominees must be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship program at the time of the appointment and may not serve more than one year beyond completion of that residency or fellowship. The Review Committees will forward its selection to the ACGME Board of Directors for approval. Terms begin July 1, 2025, and end June 30, 2027.

Residents report high levels of distress but low use of mental health services. This study demonstrates a substantial increase in residents’ use of psychotherapy after an opt-out initiative that included efforts to reduce stigma and encourage participation in mental health services.
The Impact of Changing From a 6+2 to a 3+1 Residency Block Schedule on Patient Access and Other Outcomes

Increasing the frequency that internal medicine residents are in primary care clinic holds potential for increasing patient access to timely appointments. Changing from a 6+2 model to a 3+1 model was associated with patients receiving an appointment faster.
